Introducing Aislyn Elizabeth

I am a bad blogger. I might actually change to a new blog since I use a different google email more often.

On July 24, 2010 at 10:33am Aislyn Elizabeth entered the world via a c-section.

I had BP issues starting around 35 weeks. It didn't go down by 38 and a half weeks and the doctor decided it was time to induce me. I went in on Thursday July 22 to check it again, and it still was high so he wanted me to come in that night to start the process. The nurse thought I would start it that afternoon, but since the doctor had plans that night he wanted to wait until later on at night.

At 10:30 we went to the hospital and got ready for the cervadix (not sure about spelling), and it was left in until the next day around noon. I was given sleeping pills and slept for about 4 hours before waking with pain in my back. I tried everything I could to stop the pain, but nothing helped. I was supposed to start the oxitocin that morning, but again the doctor was busy, so he waited until 2pm to start the drip.

I was put in bed so they could monitor everything all afternoon. I had some contractions, but nothing super strong. Around 8pm the doctor called to see how I was making out, and he wanted the oxitocin turned down and he would be in later that night. The nurse figured he would stop the iv and start again the next morning. I was excited as I was tired and thought it would be nice to eat something and sleep (the doctor doesn't let you eat anything but clear stuff when he induces people).

The doctor showed up at 10pm and decided that I was at 4cm (I think), and that he would break my water. They also increased the IV to the highest level. So after breaking my water, I climbed into the tub, and about 15-20 minutes later the contractions were coming on strong and hard. Lucky for me, the doctor did write the order for the drugs, and I accepted them quickly. Since I had surgery on my back, I could not have the epidural, so I was given gas and some sort of drug through the IV that gave it to me once every half hour, plus I could hit a button and get more as well.

I got out of the tub and was shown how to use the gas and I will be honest, I never felt so bloody drunk in my entire life. I don't remember much from this point. There was my OB nurse Jackie who was there when I was delivered, and she called in Tasha to help her. I remember at one point Jackie told Tasha I was stoned, which I was. I could not stay still during my contractions, I was all over the bed, rocking back and forth. Jackie tried to call the doctor, but he didn't answer, so she was stressed out that he wasn't home. He showed up shortly after, droll on his face and messy hair. I was not overly far, and I he told me to go back into the tub. I had said no early to the nurses cause I could barely think/move/talk but I listened. I was passing out due to being so tired in the tub between contractions.

At 5am, the nurse checked me and I was 9cm. I was so excited. I was also starting to get the urge to push. I was told not to, and that the doctor would be by at 8 to check me again (he was actually staying at the hospital sleeping in case we needed him before 8). At this time I also thought that they had shut off the gas and stopped my other drug cause the effectiveness was almost all gone.

8 came, and went, and when it was 9am, the doctor finally showed up. He checked me again and I was only 8cm. I was so pissed and disappointed. The doctor decided it was time that I had a c-section. This really bugged me for a long time because I did not want to have one. I would have to be put right out and I didn't like that, and Adam couldn't be there when I had our baby.

They found a surgeon who could come at 10 to do the c-section. So I was prepped for surgery and all that fun stuff. However, because I had to go downstairs, I had to be taken off all my pain meds. This was brutal. I had a few contractions going into surgery, including one while talking to the doctor about what was about to happen.

I got put to sleep, and at 10:33am Aislyn Elizabeth was born. I woke up around 11:30 and asked what I had since we didn't find out the sex. I swore I heard that I had twin girls. Instead of freaking out, I thought to myself, good now I don't have to do this again, two kids is perfect and went back to sleep. I woke up like 5 minutes later I asked them again cause I figured that twins didn't seem right. They said a girl. I didn't believe it because I thought it was a boy. I had dreamed first it was a girl, but Adam was sure it was a boy since he felt her kick around 24 weeks.

I had to wait until 12:30 to go upstairs, longest wait of my life. I asked what she weighted, and what she looked like. I even asked if she had Adam's chin dimple. I asked the nurse if she had any pictures of my daughter (not sure why they would looking back, but still). I got told she was beautiful and tiny. They asked what we would name her and I said I dunno, but she will have the middle name Elizabeth since it was my grandma's birthday and she was Myra Elizabeth. They thought we should name her Mia. Before going up, they gave me morphine. When I got upstairs, I finally seen our baby girl. I think I held her for a few minutes, but honestly I can't really remember since I was all drugged up.

Aislyn's birth was not at all the way we planned, I didn't want a c-section. But she is here, and she is perfect. We are so blessed.
